Referrals
A referral from your doctor is required to bulk-bill to Medicare the requested diagnostic test items.
- Referral from GP is valid for 12 months.
- Referral from medical specialist is valid for 3 months.
- Referrals from allied health professionals such as speech pathologists, nurses, psychologists and chiropractors are not valid for Medicare bulk-billing purposes.
- Medical referrals are not mandatory if you are prepared to pay for the required diagnostic test procedures. Charges will follow the Medicare schedule of fees.
